Due to an injury, Reece James will be absent from the World Cup in Qatar. After discussions with Gareth Southgate on Tuesday, it was decided the Chelsea full-back has not recovered sufficiently from the knee injury he picked up against AC Milan last month.
In an effort to be fit for Qatar, James travelled to Dubai for a rigorous rehabilitation program. Recently, he had even been making some tentative strides at Chelsea’s Cobham training facility.

However, Southgate has made the difficult choice to inform James that he cannot risk having him in his 26-man squad that will be named on Thursday due to injury worries regarding another crucial England right-back, Kyle Walker, and midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Gareth Southgate spoke with Reece James on Tuesday; the right-back has not fully recovered from the knee injury he sustained while playing for Chelsea against AC Milan last month. Southgate did not want to take a chance by including James in his 26-man squad, which he will announce on Thursday at 2 pm.
